The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities determined he posed a serious risk of fleeing while under domestic detention.

The ex-president was convicted of planning a government overthrow in the ninth month and given more than over two decades in jail, but he was staying under house arrest pending legal challenges.

High Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes said the action to imprison the elderly politician was a precautionary step after fresh information were revealed.
