After weeks of suspense, schemes and backstabbing, The Celebrity Traitors concludes with a nail-biting finale
Warning: spoilers ahead - This article discloses details from Celebrity Traitors finale
Throughout the season, audiences saw eliminations, betrayals, intense glares, and an unforgettable incident that pierced the overwhelming tension.
Yet on Thursday night, the final winner of the first celebrity edition was revealed.
Out of 19 contestants, only five remained: Traitors and loyal players competing for the prize.
Before long, the field narrowed to just three: the remaining contestants.
Ultimately, comedian Alan Carr emerged as the champion, in a surprising result that went viral and made him tearful.
"This has been destroying me, I'm so sorry," he declared, revealing to the other players that he was actually one of the deceivers. "I'm an awful human being."
"You played amazingly," they comforted him. "Everything's fine."
Online platforms quickly erupted with this development. "The worst deceiver being the best traitor ever," wrote a viewer.
"It couldn't have been a better conclusion," stated a different person, while someone else called it "the television highlight of the year."
The organization he selected, a cancer charity, will receive the entire winnings, with the total amount reaching eighty-seven thousand five hundred pounds.
The comedian's evolution from comic relief to cold-hearted killer was among the most memorable aspects of the series.
However, his victory still shocked viewers in shock, according to entertainment reporters.
"The idea of Alan, among everyone, pulling off an expert performance in deceit felt just as probable as him keeping composure through his comedy routines."
During follow-up conversations, fellow players explained the reasons nobody had truly doubted him.
"He might have come down to the morning meal in traitor attire and I still wouldn't have thought he was a traitor. His humor distracted me," a player said.
"The majority didn't target him because how can you eliminate a person so charming?" questioned another celebrity.
The winner stated he had "thoroughly enjoyed" his time on the show.
"I'd like to participate once more... I don't think it would work again!"
Thursday evening's installment was extended to 70 minutes on the network. It had an unusual opening than usual, as all the celebs were aware who would appear at the breakfast table.
There was some very uplifting, and atypical for the show soundtrack, as we recapped key scenes from each of the finalists' time in the castle.
True to form, Alan Carr gave us unforgettable quotes.
"Let's face it, I began the competition as something of an anxious mess. I've betrayed some really good friends to save myself, I've eliminated national treasures openly. I'm clearly a better liar and traitor than I believed."
Meanwhile, another contestant noted that being in the final was "significantly more pressure than playing for England", while another said he was "completely amazed" to have lasted this long.
In the beginning of the finale, several players appeared to be attempting to become the new style icon of the castle, taking over from the previously eliminated style leader.
The winner appeared at the morning meal looking like a vintage television personality in patterned burgundy attire, before changing into an embellished light-colored outfit.
However, he got out-jacketted by another contestant's maroon velvet tuxedo. What a look.
Next up was the competition, with the remaining contestants boarding a train named - naturally - The Deceivers' Railway.
The challenge saw them ripping up portraits of former contestants. Spare a thought for a player who managed to get hit on the head THREE times by the cover of a substantial container.
Soon after, the moment arrived for the roundtable.
The deceivers made a pact beforehand, vowing to support each other. "We've progressed significantly, I'm not going to throw him under a bus," said a player, while the other simply laughed.
However, one did stick to his promise. But, managing to stay unnoticed for the majority of the competition, their partner still got the most votes.
The last deceiver appeared he was in significant distress to be the final deceiver remaining. "Being alone, I'm frightened," he said. "I'm a loose cannon, without direction."
Social media and viewers were similarly upset.
"I hoped against this contestant to be eliminated. An endearing deceiver," said a commentator.
"Your legacy will remain in the show's legacy," posted another user.
However, there remained little opportunity to focus on this departure. Before long, they were at the endgame - this being the moment everyone anticipated.
The last players stood over the fire pit. Meanwhile, the partnership collapsed, precisely when it was most crucial, in a truly WTF moment.
A player was eliminated in dramatic fashion - after a shock vote from their partner, who turned against them.
"It hurts to be betrayed at the final moment in that manner," said the ousted contestant. Later, it was revealed that if they ever communicate, the eliminated contestant calls their former ally as a traitor.
Ultimately, just three players were still competing: the final trio.
One player, appearing quite pleased, chose to conclude the competition. The same decision was made by a different player, and it all came down to the final participant, who made the identical choice - which meant that the deceiver emerged victorious.
According to commentators, the moment where remaining contestants comforted the champion was "beautiful TV". "I predict it could be in the running for memorable moment at next year's awards," they said.
Fortunately, the winner quickly regained composure from his emotional outburst, and could finally appreciate his victory.
"What a rollercoaster. I was awful at lying, I had no poker face and now I stand a winner," he said.
He also joked about the memorable elimination - his best friend during the initial stages - by reaching over the presenter in the final scene and touching her cheek.
"You've got something on your face," he said, with his trademark giggle.
The last few weeks of famous people scheming, scheming and the occasional unexpected moments may seem like one big crazy jumbled dream. Yet it actually all happen. It will be remembered fondly.
